FASIMO
The primary objective of the Fasimo project was to enhance the capacity of smallholder irrigation scheme farmers through the implementation of two-way SMS messages. Additionally, the project provided support for monitoring and evaluation by utilizing impact pathway analyses visualization techniques.
STRENGTHENING SMALLHOLDER IRRIGATION FARMERS WITH TWO-WAY SMS CAPACITY AND IMPACT PATWAY ANAYSES SUPPORT
SmartFarming BV takes pride in its participation in the FASIMO project, which aimed to enhance the productivity, sustainability, and equity of government and farmer-led smallholder irrigation schemes in Mozambique. As a partner in the project, our focus was on capacity building and leveraging technology to support smallholder irrigation scheme farmers.
The FASIMO project had a direct impact on 12 irrigation schemes in Gaza and Manica provinces, benefiting around 1000 farmers. Through collaborative efforts with other projects, the government, and the private sector, the project’s reach extended to many more farmers, with an estimated 80% benefiting from a remarkable 140% increase in income, equivalent to approximately $1,500. The project also strived for social benefits, such as reduced conflict, increased engagement of young farmers and women in irrigation activities, active participation in community institutions, and a decrease in inequality.
SmartFarming BV’s, specific role within the FASIMO project was to empower smallholder irrigation scheme farmers through capacity building using two-way SMS messages. Furthermore, we offered support for monitoring and evaluation through the use of impact pathway analyses visualization, enabling offline data collection.
Through our involvement in the FASIMO project, we demonstrated our dedication to harnessing technology and empowering farmers to drive positive change in the agriculture sector.
