TEAMS PROJECT

Soil sensors

The TEAMS projects focused on enhancing access to extension services, supplying soil sensors, offering training on soil sensor utilization, and implementing an SMS platform for farmer communication. This project was commissioned by the International Fertilizer Development Corporation (IFDC).

SmartFarming BV, in collaboration with its local partner IRIPO Moçambique Lda, is participating in the TEAMS Project in Mozambique. The TEAMS project, funded by the Embassy of Sweden, has a primary focus on increasing food availability and accessibility for smallholder farmers, with a special emphasis on empowering women economically through agriculture.

In Mozambique, smallholder farmers encounter challenges related to accessing extension services and implementing climate-smart agricultural practices. The limited availability of information and tools for effective soil management hampers productivity and resilience in the face of climate variability. To tackle these issues, the TEAMS project has engaged SmartFarming to improve the accessibility of extension services, provide soil sensors, offer training on soil sensor usage, and establish an SMS platform for farmer communication.

Directly benefiting 15,500 smallholder farmers, with a strong focus on women’s economic empowerment in agriculture, the TEAMS project has significantly relied on SmartFarming’s expertise. By enhancing access to extension services and utilizing soil sensors along with the SMS platform, farmers gain valuable insights into soil health and moisture levels, enabling them to make informed decisions about irrigation and fertilizer application. Furthermore, the SMS platform facilitates effective communication between farmers and extension services, ensuring timely delivery of relevant information and support.

The overarching impact of the TEAMS project is evident in the increased food availability and accessibility for smallholder farmers in Mozambique. By adopting climate-smart agricultural practices and benefiting from extension services, farmers can elevate their productivity, income, and resilience to climate change. Additionally, the project strives to promote gender equality and social inclusion by actively involving women farmers in the agricultural value chain.

As SmartFarming BV, our commitment to the success of the TEAMS project is unwavering, and we take pride in our contribution towards improving access to extension services and promoting sustainable agriculture practices. Leveraging our expertise in soil sensor technology and the SMS platform, we seek to empower smallholder farmers, fostering their economic growth and food security.
