The Sustainable Livelihoods for Communities in the Sustainable Development Zone of Gorongosa National Park (SLDP)
The SLDP project in Mozambique endeavors to create a Farm Management Information System (FMIS) with the objective of improving farm productivity and facilitating integration into organic value chains. This system will offer personalized extension services, empowering farmers through digital interactions, data collection, and real-time decision support. The project is a collaboration involving IRIPO lda, Resilience bv, and the Gorongosa National Park.
EMPOWERING FARMING COMMUNITIES USING FARM MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEM (FMIS)
SLDP project in Mozambique aims to enhance the socioeconomic conditions of communities in the PNG Sustainable Development Zone. It is a collaborative effort between the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the Gorongosa Restoration Project (GRP), Right To Play (RTP), and Resilience BV.
The main objectives of the SLDP project are to increase agricultural production, improve nutrition indices, provide quality water and basic sanitation, and promote sexual and reproductive health initiatives, with special attention given to empowering women and young people in targeted districts. Additionally, the project contributes to reforestation and biodiversity conservation, aligning with the Mozambique Government’s development agenda.
With a budget of 20 million Euros and a five-year implementation period from 2022 to 2027, the SLDP project aims to directly benefit 45,000 individuals, supporting family sector producers and community members through awareness campaigns on nutrition, water, sanitation, hygiene, and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR).
Part of the SLDP project involves developing a Farm Management Information System (FMIS) to enhance farm productivity and integration into organic value chains. Resilience BV, in collaboration with IRIPO lda, SmartFarming BV, and the Gorongosa National Park, will deliver Farm Management Information Services, focusing on capacity building in digital services and data collection, using customizable tools and e-learning platforms.
The objectives of the Farm Management Information Services include deploying digital technologies to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of activities, particularly in the Coffee and Honey value chains. Customized digital data collection tools will be utilized to consolidate and manage information related to operations and farmers’ production. Additionally, a digital platform will be designed, developed, and implemented to provide information to all beneficiaries, facilitating engagement between them and different components of the SLDP project.
Through the integration of digital technologies and information access, the SLDP project aims to empower communities, enhance agricultural practices, and improve the overall livelihoods of participating communities in the Sustainable Development Zone of Gorongosa National Park.
